In recent months, I have heard more and more about cleansing
conditioners from beauty bloggers, particularly the WEN Cucumber Aloe Cleansing
Conditioner. A product that cleanses my hair of product build-up sounded like a
great addition to my hair care routine, but I was hesitant to spend $32 on WEN. I have seen a few people mention this new product, so when I saw it on sale at Target, I knew I had to try it out and share my thoughts!
The Product: Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner
The Stats:
500 mL (16.9 FL OZ). Purchased from Target on sale for
$4.88, but also available on Amazon.
The Claim:
“Renew your senses with the calming scent of herbal mint
fusion. Then let this low lather cleanser go to work, combining the
conditioning properties of nourishing oil while gently cleansing the hair, for touchably
soft hair. Naturally this sulfate-free formula is gentle enough for smoothing
dry and damaged hair.”
The Experience:
Before using this, my hair
felt dry to the touch, yet appeared greasy from product build-up. In my nighttime shower, I used 3 pumps of the cleansing
conditioner and worked it into my scalp. The product does not lather and I
have thick hair, so it took some extra effort to work the product all the way
through my hair. I added one more pump to work through the rest of my hair. This
product replaces both shampoo and conditioner, so there is no need for
other products! The directions recommend that you leave the product in for a
few minutes before rinsing out, so I went about my normal shower routine before
rinsing the product out. (Make sure you rinse thoroughly! The second time I
used it, I do not think I rinsed thoroughly enough and my scalped look greasy the
next day, ew!) I dried my hair as usual with my hair dryer, but did not add my
usual Moroccan Oil so I could really see how the product worked.
The Verdict:
My hair was insanely smooth! I was free of product build-up
and my thick hair felt light. I told my best friend B about it and when she
felt my hair, she was also surprised by how smooth my hair felt with no other oils
or products. The scent was refreshing but not over-powering. The Herbal Essences Naked Cleansing Conditioner is a fabulous product from the drugstore to cleanse your hair of product
build up and I will most definitely continue using it instead of WEN to save the $27.
